30 Rock: Season 2 (2008)
Classic.
I loved season one of 30 Rock from the first 60 seconds, and season two didn't disappoint. I've been burned too many times by TV shows which had brilliant first seasons, only to have appalling second seasons, after apparently getting rid of the writer who actually had a soul.
For newcomers, 30 Rock is a half-hour comedy series revolving around the daily dramas of Liz Lemon, the head writer of a skit show, and her co-workers at NBC. I found season two of 30 Rock just as solid and enjoyable as the first, with loads of great moments which I'll probably be using as in-jokes with friends for years to come (I don't care if that's sad).
It's a pity that many of the secondary characters don't get as much to do this season, but Liz and Jack (her boss) are such strong, dramatic, comic characters that they easily carry the episodes.
Some people will enjoy the satirical, political humour. Some people will enjoy the random humour. Some people will enjoy the pathetic, self observational humour. I enjoyed all of the above, but most of all, I love the fact that despite the characters' personal flaws, the humour is rarely mean spirited. 30 Rock is ultimately an upbeat show, with a strong sense of cynical optimism (no, that's not a contradiction), and a generally positive outlook.
Verdict: A solid, enjoyable season with some really funny moments.
If you liked season one of 30 Rock, you'll like season two.
