30 Days of Night (2007)
In the small town of Barrow , Alaska , a month of darkness falls over the town each year. Many choose to move elsewhere during this time, leaving behind a skeleton town. One sabotage after another heralds the arrival of a mysterious stranger. While the town is trying to understand what is happening, they are completely taken into a huge bloodbath, with waves of attacks by vicious, wild creatures.
Based on Steve Nile's comics, 30 Days of Night was originally pitched as a movie, made into a comic, then picked up by the studio which originally turned it down. The vampires are adapted perfectly from the comic: with mouths full of razor teeth, they resemble rabid rotweillers, with a thirst for ripping people apart.
The story follows the distraught sheriff, banding together with the remaining townsfolk, as they scramble for survival. The execution is reminiscent of the style of the comic. As a horror movie, it shows a bit more style and cohesion than the average but it is not a particular stand out.
You'll like this if: you liked the comic.
You'll probably not like this if: you can't handle excessive blood. |
